Saving water through a rainwater harvesting system
As part of this project, above ground water harvesting tanks have been installed to water the garden centre's plant nursery and reduce surface water run off that often floods their site during heavy rain. This will prevent future flooding and reduce the need for mains water, lowering bills.
The new system captures rainfall via the nursery glass roofs and re-directs it into new metal irrigation tanks where it is stored. Using modern technology, the water is then released from the tanks when the plants in the nursery need to be watered. By linking the irrigation tanks together the technology can draw down from these combined water tanks, increasing the amount of rainwater that can be stored. Old Barn Garden Centre are using a trusted and local based contractor, Cameron Irrigation, to deliver this project.

Mark Gilbert, Commercial Director of Old Barn Garden Centre said:
"The funding has allowed us to install these above ground water tanks which is a win, win for us in reducing our mains water usage and removing excess flood water across the site. As a plant nursery and garden centre we want to demonstrate we can provide a responsible solution to water use in our industry".
Our Business Partnership Fund allows businesses to bring to life their own innovative water-saving ideas with the required funding.
