What are we doing?
The £1.45 million wetland will be a natural filter for wastewater, a unique treatment system using water tolerant plants in shallow water to filter the wastewater.
As well as using nature rather than chemicals to treat wastewater, wetlands deliver many other benefits, including:
- protecting and encouraging local biodiversity
- storing carbon in the natural environment
- improving the landscape
- creating an environmental area that is good for the community.
Since planning permission was granted, we’ve been working through the various conditions as part of the planning process which includes the installation of temporary equipment.
* Investment amount
£1.45 million for the wetland but for the full scheme £4.9m
Useful information for residents and visitors
Construction of the wetland will start in April 2025. We’ll be working during the day to minimise inconvenience to road users and the local community. When necessary, we’ll be using traffic management to make sure we keep everyone safe.
