About the reservoir

Darwell Reservoir

Darwell Reservoir is located southwest of the village of Robertsbridge in East Sussex. Completed in the 1940s, this large water reservoir covers 156 acres and is just over a mile long.

Darwell Reservoir supplies water to residents of Hastings and the surrounding areas.

Darwell Wood

While there's no public access to the reservoir, it's surrounded by ancient woodland including Darwell Wood. Situated on the southwest edge of the reservoir, Darwell Wood is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

The wood is a great place to go bird-watching and is one of the few places in the UK where you can regularly spot nightjars.

The woodland is open to visitors and features many footpaths to explore. There's also a five-mile circular walk around the reservoir which starts from the nearby village of Mountfield.
